Service Times
The Eucharist starts at 10.30 and lasts for an hour. The church is open 45 minutes beforehand for people to gather for prayer.
Style of Service
Sunday worship at St Clements has been done for generations in a manner which is accessible for everyone. It has to a noble simplicity. Other churches have large choirs or impresive facilities but due to our location we have never had access to such resources. Yet many visitors have come away feeling that God is doing something special here.
Liturgy
The Eucharistic text used is the 1982 Scottish Liturgy with its contemporary language. The Bible readings come from the Revised Standard Lectionary and the calendar is of the Scottish Episcopal Church. We use largely contemporary music which is reflective and easy for our children to engage with. Children and young people's participation is key to our mindset. So if you want King James Bible, Cramner's language and victorian hymns we would be happy to put you in touch with another congregation. Occasionally we have used experimental liturgy and sometimes use the back of the church (see above) for gatherings.
Children and Young People
Children are very welcome to join our Sunday worship or they may if they wish go to the Sunday School. The informal Sunday School rejoins the service at the offertory. The church has a policy of preparing children for first communion from the age of six or seven onwards. Toddler and babies are also welcome and the congregation is very easy about noisy children.
Christmas and Easter
Christmas and Easter are celebrated with great emphasis on finding the depth of the liturgy. The church is highly decorated and life-size displays are created at the back of the building for children to enjoy. After the easter service there is a giant easter egg hunt.
Disability and Learning Difficulties
The church has a few people with learning difficulties and they are very much cherished members. For people with visual impairment there are large print copies of the service. As yet we do not have a loop system in place. There is also a wheelchair ramp and if neccessary you can contact us to have it put out in advance.
